Independent engineering studio · Brussels

Systems that matter.

Thirteen years building and running mission-critical systems — for European research, cancer treatment, Belgian social security. Today that same rigour powers our own platforms: products that take care of people.

Altair, α Aquilae — the brightest star in the Eagle constellation. Our heading.

Platforms

A constellation in the making

One platform live, two stars still veiled — and one conviction: the most useful technology is the kind that takes care of people.

Live

Thalaro

Everyday life becomes an adventure

The family platform designed with and for neurodivergent children. Daily tasks become quests, every child progresses at their own pace with their companions — and a dedicated space connects parents, children and practitioners.

In the works

Rekolto

The studio's second star is taking shape. We're not saying more — yet.

In design

Third star

A project where software will meet the physical world. Announced once it's on track.

Journey

Thirteen years inside mission-critical systems

One common thread: code that carries real stakes — science, health, solidarity. That standard is what feeds our products.

Altaïr Engineer is founded and led by Tarek Elmeskine, senior software engineer.

  1. 2012 — 2018

    EUREKA Network

Where European research projects are born

Six years on the portal where European companies submit their R&D projects, and the technical implementation of the H2020 Eurostars programme. A first lesson in scale: the quality of a system can accelerate — or slow down — a continent's innovation.

  2. 2019 — 2020

    Accenture · AXA, SWIFT, BCV

    Finance, from Brussels to Lausanne

Consultant on banking and insurance systems: systems integration at AXA, a cloud assessment at SWIFT, and re-architecting a monolith into microservices at Banque Cantonale Vaudoise.

  3. 2020 — 2023

    IBA

    The software behind proton therapy

Three years at the world leader in proton therapy, on the software that supports cancer treatment. Where code quality is measured in patients' trust.

  4. 2023 — today

    Smals

The document backbone of social security

At the core of an orchestrator moving 160 million documents a year — over €60 billion in yearly flows. Architecture, Spring Boot & Camunda development, coaching senior developers.

  5. 2024 — tomorrow

    Altaïr

    The studio

The accumulated experience switches sides: Altaïr now designs its own platforms, with an AI-augmented engineering practice and a planned landing in the physical world.

Augmented engineering

Building with fleets of agents

Altaïr doesn't "experiment" with AI: the studio builds with it, every day. Thalaro is built by dozens of agents orchestrated in parallel — isolated environments, cross reviews, end-to-end tests — supervised by an engineer who keeps his hands on architecture, security and quality. The studio's next stars carry that same conviction deep into their architecture.

  • Multi-agent orchestration on isolated environments
  • Cross code reviews and automated e2e tests
  • RAG, embeddings and vector search — PostgreSQL + pgvector
  • AI Agents Fundamentals — Hugging Face, 2025

The workshop

From software to the physical world

Altaïr's next frontier is built at the workbench. Electronics, 3D printing, reverse engineering — hardware skills paving the way for the studio's next star.

Electronics & PCB

Printed circuit board design and electronics manufacturing — training underway, first prototypes on the agenda.

3D printing

Parametric modelling in OpenSCAD, produced on a Bambu Lab H2C — from file to finished part.

Console modding

Take apart, understand, improve: hardware as a permanent learning ground.

DIY drone

The flagship project that brings it all together: printed airframe, home-designed boards, firmware understood end to end.

Services

Senior consulting, selective availability
